The Philadelphia Shell Show
One of the largest events of its kind in the country, the Philadelphia Shell Show attracts a strong field of exhibitors and dealers from home and abroad. In recent years the artistic division has grown to rival the scientific, with a particular emphasis on sailors' valentines.
The club sponsors a catered Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening, often with a special presentation by a visiting scientist.
Entering an exhibit
Anyone may enter exhibits for the show - there is no fee, and you don't need to be a club member. Simply download and read the show rules, fill out the application form and submit it before the deadline. If you are not sure what category your work fits into, simply attach a picture of it to your form or e-mail the show chairman for advice.
To see how work is judged, and get some tips on what judges look for, download and read the guide to judging.
The club has booked a block of rooms with the nearby Windsor Suites Hotel at a special rate of $179 per night for a self-catering suite (that can be shared) between the 18th and 21st of October. Call the hotel direct and ask for the Shell Show rate. Other reasonably-priced nearby hotels include the Best Western Center City and the Club Quarters
